about

about me

While some might claim that the I is simply an illusion, this particular illusion happens to be rather persistent, although on a universal time scale it has existed for all but a fraction of a nano-second.

The corpus that is currently inhabited by this I has a peculiarly erect but still predominantly mammalian form and is composed mostly of water, with a small but significant amount of carbon and assorted inorganic material along with a higher level of synthetic preservatives than would be found in the corpora of its ancestors a mere 2-3 generations ago.

As this I finds its third-person self-reference to be rather annoying and the illusion that it is would rather speak for itself, I will infuriate every language teacher I have ever had and switch to the first person in the middle of a sentence. I have a broad and varied set of interests and pursuits and if you continue reading this blog you will be exposed to more of them (and me) than you probably want (don’t say you weren’t warned).

I don’t believe in boredom. I enjoy long walks by the beach (a bit of a problem since I spend most of time by the mountains), have a fondness for absurdity and language, cry when I read poetry, believe that we must always strive to make the world a better place for all life, present and future, yet never forget to fully enjoy the world we already have, think that humour is one of the most fascinating and least appreciated evolutionary developments, occasionally and unpredictably use british spelling, love technology almost as much as I love getting away from it, feel that if death is the price for life and suffering is the price for ecstasy, then I am good with that, and have a strong affinity with those mammals who realized deep in their core that all life came from the sea, and chose to return to it.

about this blog

Writing is something that I love doing almost as much as I seem to love putting it off. This blog has been an on/off project for a couple of years now, and it is a culmination of a number of different attempts at putting my writing online as well as learning wordpress. In its current form I look at it as an online playground, a place to experiment with ideas, with language, with technology, with visual art, a place to allow creativity and imagination to dance around in binary forms. Most everything that you will read here then is still in development, thoughts and ideas that are being formed as they are written, and as such will change and evolve, or even devolve, over time. The appearance and structure of the blog itself will also change, sometimes for the better, as I play with it as well and I discover new features and options.

commenting

I would love it if you ever feel inspire to comment. While writing is a solitary activity, it is always more fun to play with others. My comment policy is simple:

  • Stay relevant to the post. If you want to share something that has nothing to do with the original post, then send it to me privately and I will consider it.
  • Be nice. Don’t say something that you wouldn’t say in person. Criticism and disagreement is good, nastiness is not.
  • Reread what you wrote before you post it. Language matters. I am not a grammar nerd but make sure that what you are about to share actually makes sense and it is what you want to say.
  • Don’t hide behind anonymity. If you can’t sign your real name to your comment then you probably shouldn’t comment. There are obvious exceptions but it is highly unlikely you *really* need to be anonymous.
  • A note about “vulgar” language. I am not a prude. If you want to say fuck in your comments, go ahead and say fuck. But if the whole point of your comment is to use the word fuck, then I will probably delete it.
  • This is a public forum. What you (and I) write can be seen by anyone, and can be shown to others. Keep that in mind. If there is something that you want to say to me, and only me, then don’t say it here. If it is something that the world should not know about, then don’t share it.
I reserve the right to remove any comments that don’t follow the above. If you have given me a real e-mail address with your comment I will try to let you know why I am removing your comment, but I will only extend this courtesy if I feel that you have made a genuine attempt to play nice but there is something about your comment that is off. If you are a spammer or just mean I will most likely delete your comment and not give it any more thought.
Copyright
Everything written by me in this blog is copyright by me. I am not fond of copyright laws but a lot of things here are under development and I might want to use them in some future submission of mine so I would like to maintain some kind of control over it. If you see something here that you want to use, please ask. If you are so amazed with my writing that you want to pay me for it then let’s talk 😉
